Mission, Vision, and Value Statements

1 John 3: 1-6

ReformationQuest.com is the landing site Ministry of  Rev. T.R. Penry III & brings together the '1560 Geneva Project', the 'Geneva Academy, and the' Translators Workspace', along with other other reformed-minded resources. The web pages you are embarking upon express the reformation journey of Rev. Thomas R. Penry III. This Journey is seen in its passion for a principled Theology as found in the 5 Solae of the Reformation (Sola Fide, by Faith Alone; Sola Scriptura, by Scripture Alone; Solus Christus, through Christ Alone; Sola Gratia, by Grace Alone; Soli Deo Gloria, Glory to God Alone). This flows from a passion ignited by the Holy Spirit for Jesus Christ and His Word.

This reformation journey begins in the original Biblical languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin) and is a return to a critical study of the early Church Fathers/Reformation Systematics. This journey finds its "Systematic" in the teachings of Martin Luther, Philip Melanchthon, John Calvin, John Knox, and other early Reformers, to include our Puritan forbearers.

"And let us be sure that we will not long preserve the gospel without the languages. The languages are the sheath in which the sword of the Spirit is contained; they are the casket in which this jewel is enshrined; they are the vessel in which this wine is held; they are the larder in which this food is stored; and, as the gospel itself points out, they are the baskets in which are kept these loaves and fishes and fragments. If, through our neglect, we let the languages go (which God forbid!), we shall ... lose the gospel..." Martin Luther 1524

The core of Reformational theology is undeniably rooted in the Word of God and the centrality of Jesus Christ in scripture. The Legacy Standard Bible - MacArthur Study Bible serves as a crucial guide on this Reformation journey, providing a 'Checks and Balances' approach through its unique combination of Formal Equivalence and theological integrity. It adheres to the principles of New American Standard Bible, offering a literal translation from the original biblical languages. Additionally, it includes over 50 years of Dr. John MacArthur's theological insights enhancing our understanding of God's Word. Ultimately, however, theological frameworks are meaningless without a genuine personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which includes a commitment to biblical discipline in 'Scripture, Prayer, and Fellowship.' As we explore the 'Dynamics of Scripture,' let us seek a comprehensive understanding of the Scriptures, ensuring that our Reformed Theology is firmly grounded in Biblical Theology.

Mission statement:

Reformation Quest is committed to the principles of the Kingdom of God by preparing God's people for works of service in providing the body of Christ (His Church) with the spiritual tools, skills, and opportunities necessary to reach the unity of Faith; to build up one another, to know God more profoundly and to become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ; by 'Engaging, Educating and Equipping Reformational Leaders for the 21st century'. (Ephesians 4:1-16; Acts 28: 30-31)

Ministry Motto: POST TENEBRAS LUX = After Darkness - Light.

Post Tenebras Lux stands as the motto engraved on the Reformation wall in Geneva, Switzerland, and the Huguenot Monument in Franschhoek, South Africa, and is the adopted Calvinist motto of the entire Protestant Reformation Movement.

Ministry Motivational Motto: Semper Reformanda - Always Being Reformed.

Semper Reformanda, derived from "Ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda" meaning "The Church always being Reformed," highlights the continual necessity for the Church to assess and align its beliefs and practices with the teachings of the Old and New Testaments. This signifies that the Church should not remain stagnant but should always strive for a deeper adherence to scriptural principles and teachings. In today's rapidly evolving Postmodern society, which often strays from Scripture, Semper Reformanda remains particularly significant. The Church must stay vigilant in its quest for truth and remain receptive to God's ongoing guidance and correction.

Education Motto: AB INITIO - AD FONTES

Both Latin words call for 'first principles,' which are foundational, self-evident propositions, or assumptions. Ab Initio within law and science - (back) to the beginning (starting from scratch). Ad Fontes in the context of Theology - (back) to the sources or literally, "to the Fountains."

• Renaissance Humanism - both related Latin words call for an energized renewal study of the Greek and Latin classics.

• Reformation Humanism - both related Latin words call for an Energized Return to the Original Languages of Scripture as the Primary Source of Faith. It also includes a return to a critical study of the early Church fathers.

Sed in primis ad fontes ipsos properandum, id est graecos et antiquos  = Above all, one must hasten to the sources themselves, that is, to the Greeks and ancients. - Erasmus of Rotterdam, De ratione studii ac legendi interpretandique auctores

• Reformation Quest Ministry includes all the Biblical languages - Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin. Though Latin is a was introduced later, is still an important component to our understanding of the original writers of the Biblical text.
